When Wings of Joy began in 2017, Mtongwe faced high HIV prevalence, poverty and limited access to health and livelihood opportunities. Many individuals struggled with stigma and inconsistent access to treatment. Through our nine-month holistic empowerment program we have steadily rebuilt hope and capability in the community.
Over the years we have supported 1,200+ people living with HIV/AIDS, achieved strong viral suppression results, trained more than 600 graduates in vocational skills, and supported over 500 children with food, education and psychosocial care. Our work also extends to environmental resilience through tree planting and climate-smart livelihood activities.
Strengthen access to quality health services, adherence support, PMTCT and medical referrals for long-term wellness.
Equip participants with vocational and entrepreneurship skills, savings groups and market linkages to build sustainable incomes.
Provide educational support, mentorship and child protection services to ensure a safe and hopeful future for children.
Promote tree planting, waste management and climate-smart practices for long-term community resilience.
HIV/AIDS remains a major challenge in Mtongwe, with higher-than-average prevalence. Families face stigma, poverty and limited access to treatment and livelihoods. Wings of Joy stands in the gap—restoring dignity, reducing stigma and creating opportunities for health, economic independence and spiritual growth.
"Before joining Wings of Joy, I felt alone and rejected. I had no food for my children and no hope. At Wings of Joy, I was embraced, supported, and given skills. Today, I live with dignity and without stigma. Maybe I am alive today because of Wings of Joy."
Program Graduate
"Wings of Joy trained me in tailoring and helped me start my own small business. Now, I can provide for my family, pay school fees, and even save. I never thought I could stand on my own two feet again, but this program gave me that chance."
Skills Training Beneficiary
"As a single mother living with HIV, I struggled to care for my children. Wings of Joy not only supported my health but also gave my daughter school supplies and mentorship. She is now in school, confident, and hopeful for her future."
